Cessna C525 Citation flight time logging

Crew composition

Crew composition of the Cessna C525 Citation was a source of a big discussion and disputes between transport authorities and operators in the past.

The main reason was that Cessna Citation type rating training programme, crew checking, and endorsement was done the way to respect the single-pilot certification of the Cessna C525 Citation. However, the EU-OPS and later the Commission Regulation No. 965/2012 required a minimum of two Cessna Citation type rated pilots to be present in the cockpit during the revenue flights. A problem was also with logging the hours flown as a "copilot" on the single-pilot airplane from the licensing point of view and multi-pilot aircraft from the operations point of view.

EASA type certificate datasheet describes the minimum crew composition of Cessna C525 Citation as following:

One pilot (in the left seat) plus additional equipment as specified in the Kinds of Operation Equipment List (KOEL) contained in the Limitations Section of the FAA Approved Airplane Flight Manual or one pilot and one co-pilot need to be present in the cockpit during the flight of Cessna C525 Citation.

Over the top, the Commission Regulation No 1178/2011 requires pilots in multi-crew environment to be holders of the Multi-crew cooperation certificate.

To make things easier, the minimum Cessna C525 crew composition is:

  • private operations (outside the AOC): 1 pilot
  • commercial operations (within the AOC): 1 commander and 1 co-pilot
